Brian will be releasing an album of ideas he discarded while writing his Something for Everyone album, released last year.
Brian explains: “I wanted Something for Everyone to be the best album it could possibly be. That meant only putting what I considered to be tracks of the very highest standard on the album; there were to be no fillers.
“There were something like 25 ideas I had started to work on that did not make it onto the final album. Sometimes I just couldn’t work out the next section of the track or I couldn’t come up with a good chorus or I couldn’t put together an arrangement that I was happy with. There were also a couple of tracks where I was working on more than one version and I liked the discarded version. And there’s also a kind of ‘solo jam’ – where I had been recording an acoustic guitar part and I came up with something spontaneously and pressed ‘record’ to capture it.
“Of those 25 pieces of music, I liked 15 and wanted to put them out. That’s when the idea of a ‘discarded ideas’ album came to me. The title of the album, Bits and Bobs, was quickly decided on – being half of the title of a track on Something for Everyone and its meaning fitting this collection of tracks.
“However … some of the tracks needed a bit more work to give them more substance; to kind of “complete” them. This additional work was required to varying degrees: some needed just an extra part and others needed a fair amount of either music or words or both.
“I’m really pleased with the completed album, partly thanks to the excellent mixing and mastering done by Sonny Elliot.”
Bits and Bobs comes out on 2 October, though Ditto Music, and will be available on all major music platforms.
